But why not consider other solutions? Using cooling sheets can make all the difference in the world. Even on the hottest nights, a great set of cooling sheets can help you get a good night’s sleep and keep you comfortably cool all night long.

- Hypoallergenic, stain, odor and wrinkle-resistant
- Thick premium elastic corner straps and deep pockets

Price:

Highly recommended for hot sleepers, the Cosy House Collection Luxury Bamboo Sheets are made of bamboo rayon with a micro-polyester blend, taking advantage of their naturally thermal-regulating properties. This wonderful material is much softer than cotton, very breathable, and non-absorbent, which means body oils and moisture are whisked away from your body. The fabric also doesn’t retain heat, keeping you nice and cool all night long.

Bamboo rayon is threaded into an ultra-tight knit, so these cooling sheets are not only soft, they’re durable. This material is highly breathable, resists wrinkling, stains, and dust mites, which makes this a good choice for people suffering from allergies.

The Cosy House Collection Luxury Bamboo Sheets are made with extra-deep pockets and heavy-duty elastic all around, so they have a snug fit on your mattress and don’t slip and slide during the night. DAPU Linen and Cotton Sheet Set Review

DAPU Sheets Review

- Made of 55% natural French linen and 45% cotton
- Soft, eco-friendly and shrink-resistant
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification

Price:

The DAPU Linen and Cotton Sheet Set is soft, breathable, lightweight, and, most importantly, moisture-wicking. It may come at a higher price than most of the other options on our list, but linen sheets are just more expensive in general. However, they are well worth the price if you tend to sleep hot. This is a 4-piece set that includes a flat top sheet, fitted bottom sheet plus two pillowcases. The fabric is a blend of 55% natural linen with 45% long-staple cotton, to promote airflow without compromising durability.

The material has undergone a special prewash to make it softer as well as shrink-resistant, which means the sheets won’t change in size after you wash them. The linen/cotton blend fabric is made with airflow channels to provide a cool sleeping surface so that people who get hot and sweaty during the night can sleep comfortably. Because the thread is dyed before being woven, it’s UV fade-resistant and won’t change colors.

The DAPU Linen and Cotton Sheet Set has been made with an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification. It has undergone third-party lab testing to verify it's free from more than 300 toxic substances, which is extremely beneficial to people suffering from allergies or who have sensitive skin. These cooling sheets made with extra deep 16” pockets and elastic all the way around for a nice tight fit.

Although this option offers customers the best value if you ask us, this sheet set is also available in 100% linen, or if you want even more cooling, a linen-bamboo blend.

Pinzon Percale Cotton Sheets Review

Pinzon Sheets Review

- 100% breathable cotton percale
- 300-thread count
- Meets OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification

Price:

If you love the feel of cotton sheets, the Pinzon Percale Cotton Sheets are your most breathable option. Percale has a rather crispy feel to it and a matte finish. So, you can’t mistake it for sateen as it’s a little stiffer at first, but continues to soften after each wash. The 300-thread count weave makes these very breathable and cool, which is perfect during hot summer nights or in warm climates.

The tight percale weave is more durable than sateen, but a sheet with a lower thread count would feel thinner as well. Unlike polyester, cotton wicks away moisture, so 100% cotton sheets are highly breathable. This 4-piece sheet set may not be the least expensive option, but since they’re made of 100% cotton, you can’t beat the price for this level of quality.

Manufactured in an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 factory, the Pinzon Percale Cotton Sheets meet the highest environmental and safety standards. Designed with a luxury 6” hem on the flat top sheet and pillowcases, they can be machine washed and tumble dried.

At under $30, you really can’t beat the price for a quality, easy-to-care-for soft set of sheets. What we also love about these is a “no questions asked 100% money-back guarantee” if you’re not satisfied with your purchase for any reason.

Buying Guide for Selecting the Best Cooling Sheets to Meet Your Needs

Cooling sheets are a must-have for anyone who tends to get hot and sweaty at night and for people who live in a warm, humid climate. There’s nothing like waking up in the morning feeling ready to take on the day after having a good night’s sleep, and the cooling sheets can enable this. If you suffer from night sweats, a good set of cooling sheets will absorb sweat and then quickly dry. Some of the best cooling sheets do double duty, they keep you cool in the summer and help you stay warm when it’s cold in the winter.

This Buying Guide will tell you everything you need to know about cooling sheets, give you some tips to help you choose the right set for you, and offer our recommendations based on our experience and those who’ve posted verified reviews.

Benefits of Sleeping with Cooling Sheets

There are many benefits that cooling sheets offer, but of course everyone is different. But no matter what, cooling sheets will help keep you dry and comfortable throughout the night.

The most obvious uses for cooling sheets are the following:

Night Sweats

If you suffer from frequent night sweats, you know how you look and feel in the morning. Exhausted! This is no way to live and it can be embarrassing as well. When you can’t get a good night’s sleep, there is no way you can function normally during the day!

Women in Menopause

Just when you get to a point in life when you have a little confidence about who you are, you start entering menopause. There is no avoiding this. If you’re a woman, you’ll reach menopause sooner or later and if you’re one of the lucky one it will hardly phase you.

But most women suffer hot flashes that can happen out of the blue. They’re uncomfortable and they can certainly keep you up at night.

Medical Conditions

If you’re suffering from a medical condition like hyperthyroidism or diabetes, it is essential that you take good care of yourself by properly managing your condition. But sometimes that’s difficult when an illness, whether it’s acute or chronic, makes it hard to sleep because it raises your internal body temperature, which is in itself uncomfortable.

Hot Summer Weather

Everyone loves the warm summer months. There’s nothing like being outside on a bright, sunny day. It can make you feel anything is possible. Unfortunately, those bright sunny days don’t necessarily make for nice cool nights.

While the temperatures will go down once the sun as set, it may not be enough to allow you to sleep comfortably. You can always turn a fan or use air conditioning, but that can raise your electric bill sky high!

Couples

Couples frequently argue over room temperature, so wouldn’t it be nice to resolve this problem before things get out of hand? If the two of you are thermally incompatible, with one sleeping hot and the other not so much, the right cooling sheets will cool the “hot one” down.

Memory Foam Mattress

If you sleep on a memory foam mattress you’ve probably noticed that it retains your body heat. A good set of cooling sheets can help disperse that body heat so you can sleep more comfortably.

Types of Cooling Sheets

There are two main features that go into making bed sheets that keep you cool. These features can work separately or be combined into one fabric. The best cooling sheets combine them by being both absorbent and breathable.

Absorbent

Absorbent sheets have the ability to wick away moisture. If you tend to get hot and sweaty in bed at night, this type of sheet will quickly remove the moisture from your body to keep you from waking up from the night sweats.

Breathable

Breathable sheets are designed to let your skin breath as you sleep between the sheets. This helps to keep you from perspiring during the night.

Important Factors to Consider When Buying Cooling Sheets

When you’re trying to select a new set of sheets, you need some basic information in order to pick the right ones for you. Once you understand the terminology and can distinguish between the materials, you’re in a better position to identify the options that would best serve your needs.

Types of Fabrics

Certain fabrics are especially good at combatting night sweats, which can help you get a good night’s sleep. In the past experts could only recommend natural fibers for people who tend to get hot at night. But now there are several synthetic fibers that have been recently developed to specifically wick away moisture to keep you dry and cool at night.

Natural Fibers

All-natural fibers are still thought to be the best at wicking away moisture. There are fantastic organic choices, cotton for example, that people have relied on for centuries to keep them cool.

Cotton

Cotton sheets are the best when it comes to keeping you cool. Cotton’s two strongest features are that it very effectively transmits heat and that it’s good at absorbing moisture.

Cotton will keep you cool better than any other organic material. It’s also more durable, long-lasting and less expensive than most alternatives.

However, cotton does have a couple of drawbacks:

  • Cotton is not good at holding color. In standard dry crocking tests, color rubs off cotton quite easily. Cotton also becomes stiff when it’s dyed a dark color.
  • Cotton wrinkles very easily, especially pure cotton. Wrinkle treatments only wash out. So, if you get pure cotton sheets you can expect them to wrinkle.

Types of Cotton Used for Cooling Sheets

There are three types of superior cotton that are commonly used in cooling sheets. These are Egyptian cotton, Pima cotton and Supima cotton. The reason they’re considered superior to standard cotton is because they have extra-long fibers. Bed sheets made from cotton with longer fibers are more durable while retaining their innate softness.

Egyptian Cotton

Real Egyptian cotton has traditionally been considered the ultimate for cotton sheets. Who cared about the wrinkles when it was so soft yet durable?

But the term “Egyptian cotton” is being abused. Many brands claim that their sheets are 100% Egyptian cotton, but there is no way to prove whether these claims are true. This is why we often hear complaints from people about their “Egyptian cotton” sheets.

Pima Cotton

Pima cotton is grown in the United States, Peru, and Australia. Pima cotton is considered high-grade cotton because it has smoother, finer and stronger fibers than you find with standard cotton.

Unfortunately, Pima cotton has the same problem as Egyptian cotton in that there is no way to tell if a bed sheet is actually made of Pima cotton or not without lab testing. This is why manufacturer’s get away with claiming their bed sheets are “Pima cotton sheets” when they perhaps are only made of 25% Pima cotton.

Supima Cotton

If you want cotton cooling sheets, Supima cotton would be the best because it has the longest fibers and is entirely grown in the U.S. What makes the fibers of Supima cotton so special is that they have fewer loose ends, making Supima cotton sheets less likely to pill.

But, the best thing about Supima cotton sheets is that they are tightly regulated, starting with the cotton farm and all the way through production to the finished product.

Supima factories are routinely visited by inspectors to make sure that the Supima cotton is not being mixed with other types of fibers. They also verify that it’s not being woven on the same weaving machines that non-Supima cotton products are being woven on.

To further authenticate Supima cotton, it’s tagged with DNA markers. This keeps manufacturers from making sheets that contain just 10% Supima with the other 90% being a lesser quality cotton and labelling them as genuine Supima cotton sheets.

The only disadvantage of Supima cotton sheets is that they can get expensive, as there are very few Supima cotton producers.

Linen

People often wear linen clothing to keep cool during the summer and in hot and humid climates.

However, linen bed sheets actually don’t keep you as cool as you would think. Research has shown that cotton can keep you approximately 16% cooler than linen. To confirm this, we did our own testing and we found that linen sheets have an average coolness score of 58 out of 100, whereas cotton sheets scored 73.

Linen is also coarse to the feel and even more prone to wrinkling than cotton. Some people love the casual look of being lived in, but others think that linen clothing looks more like it’s been slept in.

Linen sheets come with a higher price tag than cotton sheets, but good ones can be more durable. We recommend linen sheets from France, Portugal and Belgium because they tend to shrink and shed less than linens from other parts of the world.

The main advantage of linen sheets is that it is very good at absorbing moisture. Linen fibers have a hallow core that can hold 50% more water than even cotton. This makes linen sheets great for people who tend to get moderately sweaty in bed at night.

If you like the feel of linen’s texture, linen sheets might be perfect for you. Otherwise, you may find that bamboo sheets offer more cooling.

Bamboo

Sheets made of bamboo fabric are antibacterial, lightweight, smooth and breathable. And one of the advantages they have over cotton is that they’re cooler to the touch.

Another advantage bamboo fabric has over cotton is that it absorbs 40% more water, making bamboo sheets a wonderful option for absorbing sweat.

But, just as with other natural fibers, bamboo sheets can only absorb so much sweat. For someone who profusely sweats at night, bamboo sheets would soon get drenched with no ability to absorb more.

Bamboo sheets are somehow very pliable, which allows them to drape closely to the body to absorb as much sweat as possible. They make excellent cooling sheets for people who find it difficult to fall asleep and/or who sweat moderately.

Synthetic Fibers

In the past it would have been impossible to find a synthetic fabric that would combat night sweats. But today we have new synthetic fabrics being produced that are amazing at both absorbing night sweats and wicking it away, so people don’t wake up in the middle of the night all hot and sweaty.

Tencel

Tencel is a very unique synthetic fiber derived from eco-friendly wood pulp that’s grown on sustainable forest farms. It has hydrophilic fibers that do a great job of regulating temperature while absorbing moisture. This makes Tencel a highly breathable fabric that keeps the body cool.

The manufacturing process for Tencel sheets is similar to that of bamboo sheets, with two distinct differences:

  1. More sustainable: The wood pulp in Tencel is derived from eucalyptus trees, which are very easy to grow in areas that are not necessarily friendly to vegetation.
  1. Fewer toxic chemicals: Lenzing Fabrics is an Austrian manufacturer of Tencel, and it only uses a non-toxic solvent when extracting the cellulose from the lumber. This substance is far easier to filter and it can be reused.

Tencel sheets offer all the same benefits of bamboo sheets, but a huge plus is that they are environmentally friendly. Their biggest drawback is they tend to be quite expensive, at twice the price you would find on a set of Egyptian cotton sheets.

Polyester

Polyester sheets are not known for their ability to conduct heat, especially if the fibers are tightly woven. Polyester tends to trap heat, so it doesn’t escape.

But what polyester sheets can do well is wick away moisture to the outside of the sheet so it can dry. This allows the sweat to evaporate, so the sheet can keep on wicking away even more sweat. This is what makes polyester sheets the best cooling sheets for hot sleepers who sweat profusely during the night.

Polyester sheets dye well, they’re quite durable and affordable as well. This fiber also blends easily with other materials, which is one of its strong points.

Microfiber

Microfiber is a synthetic blend of polyester and other synthetics. Microfiber sheets offer a number of benefits over other types of cooling sheets:

  • Good at wicking away moisture
  • Holds its color well even if dyed with dark colors
  • Machine washable and dryable
  • Doesn’t wrinkle easily, unlike linen and cotton
  • Relatively inexpensive

However, microfiber does not absorb moisture, but just wicks it away.

Microfiber bed sheets are different because they’re stretchy, which some people don’t like, claiming they’re a little clingy. However, most people love the affordable prices, bright colors and how easy they are to take care of. You can tell the quality of microfiber sheets by their weight. If they’re really inexpensive they’re likely too thin and you can’t expect them to last.

Silk Sheets are NOT Recommended

If you want cooling sheets, silk sheets do not belong on your list. Although they feel cool to the touch at first, silk is very finely woven and tends to hold heat. Just remember, expensive winter gloves are often lined in silk!

If you like the look and feel of silk, Tencel would be your best option for cooling sheets.

What Else to Consider

Thread Count

When trying to select the best cooling sheets for you, it’s important to consider thread count, which is the number of threads going horizontally and vertically per square inch. In sheets, the thread count should be a major consideration.

Here’s why:

  • Sheets with a relatively high thread count tend to wear more evenly and last a bit longer.
  • Ideally, the higher the thread count, the softer the sheets.
  • The thread count has a direct impact on the fabric’s strength and durability.

Whether you agree or disagree, people who buy bed sheets with a high thread count tend to think of them as being more comfortable and even luxurious.

Having said that, you need to be careful when evaluating sheets with a high thread count. Some brands mislead consumers about their sheets’ thread count. Or, the manufacturer might use inferior quality fibers in high volume. This would make their thread count meaningless because you’d be getting an inferior product.

Our recommendation is that you look for a reasonable thread count. This will ensure that you’re getting quality sheets and that you’re not wasting your money. We suggest sticking to a thread count range from 250 to 400. In reality, it would be difficult to find a truthful thread count any higher than 400 because you really could not fit any more thread into a square inch. If you see anything higher than this, you have to question it.

When sheets have too high a thread count, they tend to be less breathable and a bit heavier. You may even have to run them through the wash several times before they soften up. If you’re looking for sheets that would be instantly comfortable and cooling, it would be best to look for sheets with a thread count of 300.

Size & Fit

If your sheets don’t fit properly, they’ll bunch up and this can impede airflow and allow heat to accumulate around your body.

Buy sheets in the size that corresponds with the size of your mattress, but make sure you know the thickness. If your mattress is extra deep, make sure your sheets can accommodate that.

Types of Weave

Weaving is how the threads are woven together to form the fabric. This impacts the texture and breathability of the fabric as well as how it holds heat and moisture. Certain types of weaves are more conducive to cooling sheets.

Percale

Percale is a flat simple type of weave for cotton fabrics. It’s crisp, durable and lightweight. This type of weave was first used for aprons and “house dresses.” You can tell percale by its crisp matt finish. Percale woven fabrics make great cooling sheets because it’s not only lightweight, it’s also breathable and pill resistant.

Sateen

Sateen looks a bit like satin because the weaving style is quite similar. So, it has a lustrous sheet and it’s soft and smooth to the touch. Sateen sheets are made of cotton, whereas satin sheets are made of silk. Sateen is a heavier type of weave than percale, while still being cool to the touch.

Satin

Satin sheets are very shiny, with an ultra-luxurious feel to it that can be cooling. But it does come from silk, so satin sheets may not be as cooling as other options.

Jersey

Jersey is a very versatile type of weave, which allows jersey sheets to help keep you cool during the summer and warm during the winter.

Natural or Organic Materials

If you are looking for sheets made of organic materials, you can trust the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification. For fabrics to be GOTS certified they must meet rigorous production standards. If you are an environmentally conscious shopper, look for this certification on the sheets you buy.

The OEKO-TEX certification can also be trusted for validating the absence of a whole assortment of toxic chemicals that are commonly used in the production of fabrics.

Synthetic materials are man-made. Keep this in mind when buying cooling sheets because if you’re considering a synthetic fabric it will not break down in the environment as easily as a natural or organic material.

Durability

Whatever type of bedding you’re shopping for, you’re going to have to consider the fabric’s durability. If your cooling sheets lack durability, they’ll start breaking apart before long and you’ll have to buy new sheets.

The most durable mattress cooling sheets are going to be ones that are made from linen, silk and cotton. This doesn’t imply that other materials, such as tencel or bamboo rayon, aren’t at all durable - as far as customer favorites go, however, the above-mentioned three picks then to come up more often than the rest.

The best cooling sheets are durable and the most durable are made of cotton and linen. This is not to say that bamboo rayon or Tencel are less durable, but when you go through all the customer reviews you find that cotton and linen are mentioned most among the favorites.

Breathability

The body has its own way of regulating its temperature. When you get too hot, you’ll start sweating and when air flows over your moist skin, it cools you down.

When you’re in bed at night between the sheets, this can interfere with your natural cooling process. If moisture from sweat becomes trapped because the airflow is restricted, you can’t cool down and this is why it’s so important to have breathable sheets.

Breathable sheets not only absorb the moisture, they allow air to flow through to cool you down and get the moisture to evaporate. This is what’s called moisture wicking. The best cooling sheets for hot sleepers will have these properties.

Neutral Colors

When trying to decide which would be the best cooling sheets for you, you’ll probably see that most sheet sets come in a variety of neutral colors. It might be fun to get patterned or bright colored sheets, but in the long run, it may not be the best investment.

Sheets in neutral colors make the most sense because they can more easily blend with your bedding choices over the years. Also, patterns that might be popular today, can easily look dated in the not too distant future.

Neutral colors tend to be more soothing and this is the tone you want when you’re trying to fall asleep. Bright red has been scientifically proven to raise the heart rate. It would more likely keep you awake than help you get to sleep!

Sheet Sets

Know what you’re buying so you’re not disappointed. Some sheets come in sets and others are sold separately. All of our recommendations are sold in sets, with a top flat sheet, bottom fitted sheet and either 2 or 4 pillowcases. Read the label before buying so you know what you’re getting ahead of time.

Price

Clearly, the price of the best cooling sheets is always up for discussion. People typically look for a balance between price and quality. Having said that, it’s often difficult to figure all that out when you’re looking for cooling sheets. As a rule of thumb, you usually get what you pay for so I would stay away from extremely cheap bed sheets. They’ll likely wear out in no time.

A high-end set of cooling sheets is your best bet because they can really help you get a good night’s sleep on hot humid nights. They are well worth the investment, as long as they meet all your requirements.

Hypoallergenic

The best cooling sheets for hot sleepers will be hypoallergenic. Look for chemical-free sheet sets that are made of natural, organic, eco-friendly materials. Sheets with the OEKO-TEX certification should be allergen free.

Return Policy & Warranty

Make sure that you read the fine print when it comes to the return policy on your cooling sheets. You want to be able to return them if you’re unsatisfied. Even if the company doesn’t offer a refund, you may be able to exchange them for another bedding product. Some brands have a 30-day return policy, although you may know they aren’t right for you after just one night.

Manufacturers who stand behind their products with a warranty give consumers more confidence to try them. So, check to see if there is any type of warranty offered as well.

If you’re purchasing your sheets from a foreign country, it’s even more important that you understand the return policy and any potential costs. It might become expensive if you have to pay for international shipping.

Just make sure that you have the company’s contact information in case you have questions or want to return your sheets.

Washing Instructions

Fortunately, most cooling sheets can easily be tossed in the washing machine and dryer. But to be on the safe side make sure you read the washing instructions. Many of them should be washed in cold water only. As for tumble drying, put them on low heat. It may be okay to bleach some materials, but it’s not safe for others. You just need to read the washing instructions so that you don’t ruin your sheets. If you’re not sure about the washing instructions on the label, go to the manufacturer’s website or look for a toll-free number to call.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sheets would you recommend for people who sweats moderately?

The best cooling sheets have typically been made of natural/organic materials like cotton. Although cotton does wrinkle, this is a safe choice all the way around.

What is most advantageous about natural fabrics is that they are great at absorbing moisture. However, there are limits since cotton sheets can be fairly thin and can get soaked fairly quickly.

So, cotton sheets would be fine for people who sweat lightly or moderately.

What sheets would you recommend for someone who sweats heavily?

We would recommend sheets made of a synthetic fabric like polyester or microfiber. There are even some innovative high-performance blends that may be worth trying.

Just so you know, certain so-called “experts” have recommended that people who get hot and sweaty at night in bed totally avoid synthetic sheets.

We disagree.

Although it may be true that synthetic bed sheets don’t do a great job of cooling you down. But what they’re great at is getting rid of more sweat than sheets made of natural or organic fabrics.

Natural sheets are great at absorbing moisture, whereas synthetic sheets are great at wicking away moisture. At some point a natural sheet will become drenched with sweat and unable to absorb one drop more. But when the moisture is wicked to the outside of the fabric it will keep on evaporating, which is what happens with synthetic sheets, so they can keep on wicking away the moisture.

Some of the best cooling sheets for hot sleepers are synthetic because they work so well for people who sweat heavily at night.

What type of weave would you recommend for cooling sheets?

Percale might be best because it is cooler cotton weave than sateen because the weave is looser, which allows airflow and heat to escape. Percale is also crisper than sateen, which makes it more ventilating.

However, sateen may keep you dryer because of its ability to drape the body closely and thus absorbs more excess sweat sitting on the skin.

If you are forced to choose between these two weaves, we would recommend percale.

Conclusion

If you really want to improve your sleep so that you can wake up every morning refreshed, you may want to change your sheets, among other things. Everything about your bed influences how well you sleep. This includes your mattress, mattress cover or topper, pillow and of course your sheets.

How you make your bed can make a huge difference in how you sleep. Some of the best cooling sheets will help you sleep cool, even on hot, humid summer nights. It’s surprising what the right bed sheets can do for your sleep.

You can decide to use all-natural sheets like bamboo, cotton or Tencel, or you can opt for a synthetic. There are pros and cons to each, so just know what you’re looking for with regard to the features we’ve mentioned above like weave and breathability.

I hope all the information we’ve given you today will help you make the right choice.
